So… What is Strategy 2050?

There’s a saying we’ve all heard: “Failing to plan is planning to fail.” But here in Gunnedah, we’ve flipped the script.

We’re not just planning, we’re building. And what we’re building is bold, regional, unapologetically proactive, and bigger than any single business, industry or council agenda.

Welcome to Strategy 2050.

So… What is Strategy 2050?

Strategy 2050 is a regional blueprint. A living document. A community-led movement. It’s the work of Allied Partnerships Australia, delivered in collaboration with the Gunnedah Chamber of Commerce and business and industry partners who aren’t afraid to roll up their sleeves and shape the future before it shapes us.

It’s also a bit like reading the fine print on a 25-year lease for our town, except this time, we wrote the terms.

Built from deep engagements to support local businesses, sector leaders, government agencies, data analysts and everyday residents, Strategy 2050 is about securing economic stability, reducing risk, future-proofing industries, and unlocking real, inclusive growth for Gunnedah and beyond.

Not through vague ambition but through mapped opportunity, clear-eyed risk analysis, and a commitment to shared success.

Why Now?

Because change isn’t coming – it’s already here.

Whether it’s the phased wind-down of coal, the challenges of water scarcity, the volatility of freight and land access, or the question of “who will do the work” as our population ages, we are at a strategic crossroads.

The temptation to stick our heads in the red dirt (or our black soil) and hope it’ll all blow over is real. But it’s also dangerous.

Instead, we’re putting pen to policy and vision into action, from business transformation to workforce strategy, from veteran reintegration to youth empowerment, from housing pathways to AgTech advancement.

What We’ve Uncovered (So Far…)

Let’s be clear: Strategy 2050 is not a sugar-coated brochure. It doesn’t avoid the uncomfortable truths. In fact, it leans into them.

Here’s a taste:

  • Industrial land access is strangled by infrastructure shortfalls – we’ve got the zoning (or have we??), but not the service delivery.

  • Gunnedah’s workforce is ageing fast – with youth outmigration and a skills vacuum looming.

  • Water, land and freight constraints are hampering every sector – and we can’t afford to play postcode politics.

  • Our housing market isn’t just tight – it’s breaking – stalling economic attraction and long-term sustainability.

But we’ve also uncovered gold:

  • Our businesses are bold. Hungry. Ready to adapt.

  • Our people are solutions-focused, and fiercely proud of place.

  • Our existing industries are ripe for bolt-on innovation – clean tech, regenerative ag, advanced manufacturing, and micro-credentialled trades.

  • Our veterans, young leaders, disability enterprises and migrant workers hold untapped strategic value, if we design with them in mind.

What’s Next?

This is where it gets exciting.

Strategy 2050 isn’t a static PDF on a dusty shelf, it is much much more than that. It’s a campaign, a call-to-action, and a platform for investment, collaboration and legacy thinking.

Over the coming months, you’ll see:

  • Digital campaigns that break down the big topics (and translate policy-speak into real talk).

  • Events and town halls where businesses can connect, grow and help steer the vision.

  • Youth and sector roundtables feeding directly into planning and advocacy.

  • Sector-specific reports – from agriculture to mining to tourism and the digital economy.

  • And yes, a whole lot of gutsy storytelling.

Because the truth is, the future won’t wait for us to get ready. So we’re getting ready now.

Guess What! We Don’t Need Permission

We’re not waiting for the perfect policy cycle. We’re not waiting for someone from the city to tell us what we’re worth.

We have written it ourselves and we’re inviting every person, partner, and business house who wants a seat at the table to grab one.

Strategy 2050 is a partnership in motion.

A future with our fingerprints all over it.
